Bill Silver Motor & Restoration Guides

Hi!

Welcome to My

Vintage Honda Techknuckle Page!

My name is Bill Silver, from sunny southern California (and a native, actually). I've been a member (and past newsletter editor) of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club of North America  for more than 15 years. I continue to write my Techknuckle Page for the newsletter and offer observations and solutions to owners of (primarily) '60s model Honda street bikes. I have owned over 300 motorcycles, in my 30 years of riding. I've owned ALL of the different Dream, Super Hawk and Scrambler models and found that the factory information on these bikes left a lot to be desired. So, I sat down one day in 1991, with a newly acquired word processor and began to write about the Honda Super Hawk, one of my favorites.

  CB/CL Restoration Reference Guide

Although they look pretty much the same on the outside, once you begin a restoration or even a major repair on the CB or CL engine or chassis, MANY details begin to become apparent. The information in the CB/CL Restoration Reference Guide book helps to avoid both the incorrect assembly of the bike and the purchase of parts that may not even fit that particular machine. Honda made changes, AS NECESSARY, and they didn't always fall at the beginning or end of a model year. If a significant problem became apparent, a redesign was implemented as soon as possible, to correct the error or problem.

  250-305 Honda Engine Repair Guide (CB/CL/CA 72/77)

My latest release is the new 250-305 Honda Engine Repair Guide, which is 112 pages of information covering ALL models of this engine series. They may all look a lot alike on the outside, but there are a number of major differences on the inside of these engines, from the first JIS-threaded Dreams and Super Hawks (Hawks are 250s!) in 1961 to the last of the ISO-spec machines in 1967. You don't want to just grab a handful of familiar-looking parts and begin to screw them together! You may be in for an unpleasant surprise! Thus, the reason for the engine book and the previous CB/CL books.
