kneewall49, I had a set of rims powder coated for my cafe racer project. They were rusty like yours ,but after sand blasting looked great and the powder coat had a good finish to stick to. It didn't seem to affect the spoke holes as it went back together fine. Kustommusic

Van, Great looking bike! Good luck finding info on tour noise. Oh, I doubt very much its piston slap. But smoke at higher RPMs would be a good sign it needs rings. No big deal there. Kustommusic
