old post but I went through the same thing after chasing everything I could think of my problem was that I had a bulb that was pull out of the light that lights up the speedometer and it was shorting out up inside of the speedometer. A new bulb fixed the problem.

Does anyone know how the air filter frame cover is held on? I am talking about the metal cover that has the small hole in the lower corner that the battery wire goes through. It is about six inches in diameter and it covers the side of the frame after the air filter is in place and is painted to mat...
