"I'm not sure what point you're making here but, from the CB77 Owners handbook max. torque for one of these engines is 18.08 ft.lbs which would me measured at the crank (sprocket)" It doesn't matter what the engine produces for torque, I was just pointing out the force needed to balance out 50 foot ...

If it was that easy to twist a crank out of register it would get twisted every time you opened the throttle wide open. In first gear with the output shaft nut getting say, 50 foot pounds of torque, that torque figure would be divided by the ratio of first gear(2.788:1) then divided farther by the r...

If you have a strap wrench on the rotor there is no need to hold the brake.

I wouldn't wedge something between the sprocket teeth, that's a good way to bend a shaft. Put it in high gear and hold the alternator bolt with a socket.

Put a new spark plug in it. That's the easiest/first thing you should do. Cleaning a carburetor won't fix a gas-fouled plug.

How did you measure the end play? I mount a dial indicator on the left end of the cam and watch the readings when I lightly tap the center left and right, with a brass drift. There should be a tiny bit movement, to keep the bearings from excessive side thrust, and ensure room for adequate oil film.
