It's common to see painted (BLACK) cylinders on these engines (street or race) because some folks like the look. I remember seeing them in the 60's cause the Brit bikes with the iron cylinders painted theirs Black and for some reason we wanted our bikes to SORT OF LOOK like the Brit bikes. ............

If you are spliting the case to fix the trans you don't need to pull the rotor.<br />The rear axle on my bikes are not the correct thread.<br />Actually to answer the how to question the rotor and crank have a drif key. I'd say you are doing it right but need to hit it harder. I've removed and installed many of them and I just knock the devil out of them. ............LM

It has normal threads. I use a flat faced chisel and hammer it off then on. ..............LM
