My intention is to have a CB77 that resembles Pirsig's as closely as possible, so I am sticking with the current setup. The bike is definitely 1964 and all the cables look original.

Thanks for the information about the carb bowl spigots, I had been searching for something on those. The two small pipes and Y piece are described as "air vents" and they are in the head not the crankcase, I wonder what exactly they do? Anyway they should got to the aircleaner not the carb bowls. There are two small pipes that run from the rear base of each cylinder I assume they are crankcase breathers? On mine they go to a Y piece and thence to the right aircleaner. I am having the same issue, everyone tells you that these bikes (mine is 1964) started life with "flat bars" - great for boy racers not so good if you travel any distance. Bit of a newbie here, looking at several images of 1964 CB77 bikes it certainly appears that they have straight bars. Engine number is CB77E .... Does that make a difference?
