CA 77 float height measurement

Post by brewsky » Wed Dec 09, 2009 5:13 am

Ok,..... PW 22 carb specs are 26.5 mm for float height.

Clymer manual says measure from bottom of float to gasket surface of carb.

Honda service manual says measure from bottom of float to surface of carb body.

Silver manual does not address the measurement details in words, but includes diagram from Honda service manual.

At least they all agree on the 26.5mm distance.

Which is correct?

From the carb body (gasket recess). The Honda metal-plate gauge sits in the cutouts on either side of the flange.

Pleasure, mate. I made a float gauge from a piece of card; when only checking/setting the height three or four times a year there's no real need for the metal one.

Ed has a method of setting the height by sight, aligning the floats' circumferences with part of the needlejet, which I can't seem to get to grips with!

Ya be the first to say that.
Ever wonder why that area is that way and others never understood.
As ya know all of the early carbs don't have the cut out. .........lm

LM,
As I remember your method..... it was to align the bottom of the float with the level of the main jet holder (jet removed) which would then give the required distance called for.
I believe it was for the PW 26 carbs though.
When my PW 22 carb is set to the 26.5mm distance measured from the carb body gasket surface, the jet holder is still "above" the line of sight of the float.
