CB77 Petcock Rebuild Problems

Post by akpasta » Fri May 17, 2019 4:10 pm

A while back my CB77 fuel lever snapped. I was able to score an original replacement.

I swapped in the new lever but the fuel lever cover plate that seals against the wavy washer and 4-hole rubber gasket was not putting enough pressure to get a seal, and fuel was leaking.

I ordered the rebuild kit, thinking maybe my 4-hole rubber gasket was beyond its useful life.

I used the new 4-hole gasket and I still get a leak.

It's leaking from where the fuel lever cover plate meets the face of the petcock, where it's supposed to push against the wavy metal washer and 4-hole rubber gasket.

There's no gasket between the cover plate and the petcock. Is there supposed to be?

I put everything back together exactly as before, but with a new rubber gasket. I am now stumped.

Make sure that the surface of the lever that contacts the four hole gasket is flat and smooth. Polish it up on a flat surface with 1000 grit sandpaper. There are no other gaskets required. Regards, Chase
