dissasembly of rear shock covers

Post by jgregg » Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:21 pm

new here and have a set of 62 dream rear shocks. need to take the plastic top covers off and replace them with some not broken. i have another set, but the bottoms on them are trashed. any ideas how the covers come off?

Hi jgregg,

Welcome to the forum.

I just got on to search for the exact same issue ... as I work my way backward on my front-to-back restoration project. (that's what Fast Fred named it ;)

Post by jgregg » Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:42 pm

well i just got my 62 stripped and ready for paint, using 65 parts bike to put some misc back on. im redoing my bike blue, the extra shocks top covers are black, but in great shape. would hate to try to refinish and paint them as they stand. rather do it apart. hope someone can help. jackie

Same here, but my aim is to inspect the parts since the scoot has been sitting for X-years. A nice new coat of paint is waiting for my shocks too.

I found this thread:

Looks like we need a "volunteer" friend.

shock dissasembly

reading it sounds like we still have issues. husband says he thinks there is a locking nut under the rubber stop at the top and a valve spring compressor might help to compress it. but you have to worry about breaking the plastic. we are still discussing options. im thinking on calling my dream the "money pit" lol you wont believe the stuff we have had to fix by damn fools
