I got the square nut of the steering stem. put a sheet down collected bearings. Now it moves up and down but wont come out completely. Do i need to remove steering lock with a key first?I want to thank all the informative people on this site.without your help it would be alot more trial and error thanks to all. Mike

You do not need to remove the fork lock to remove the steering stem. Perhaps pics would let the forum see what you are dealing with.
