Wanna see my nipples!

Post by modelman » Sun Nov 05, 2017 8:04 am

The latest resto has the US style hi-bars which I don't like, bought a UK CB400 handlebar which I then had to mill opening on the underside as well as the long throttle slot on top.
Next the control cables were cut by 220mm, but the lever-end nipples were solid lead type stuff & just melted as the cable was removed.
I have tons of 8mm thick-wall brass tubing left over from my production runs & found that it fits the new lever recesses perfectly!!
Drilled cable size hole in the tube, then slotted one side only, cut to length, placed onto cable, soldered the wire for about 20mm.
Put wire in vice with about 5mm protruding, hammer over to right-angle, bring tube/nipple to the end & make the right-angle fit into the slot.
Fill the tube assy with solder-paste, flood with solder, file to shape!
You will have a nipple that will NEVER pull through, & since its brass, should wear well.
I have loads of off-cuts of this tubing thats free to any who wants some.

I'm always impressed with your handy work and, like you, I'm all for making whatever I can. However, I'm also not adverse to taking the easy way out so I just buy a bag of nipples and ferrels. Venhill engineering supply everything you'll ever need for making your own cables.
