Fork tube swap

I have a good set of tubes for an early set of cb77 forks that I want to use in late cb77 lowers. Am I going to have problems that I can't foresee ? It looks like they will fit but the inner tube (looks to be built into lowers ) is different at the top and one of the bushings is further up on the fork tube . I don't think the bushing is an issue but I'm not sure about the inner tube. These must have been attached at the factory to a bottom cap and then the whole assembly welded into the lower leg ? Or am I missing something such as they come out somehow ?

One reason for no replies may be that no-one has attempted to do this.

There are two different types of 'early' forks each with a different internal tube lenth that the spring rests on.Those two are not interchangeable to my knowledge. The early ones have 38mm diameter where the lower clamp fits and were used in 1961 to 1963. Then there is the 2nd type with 35mm clamp area.





The final type with the aluminium lowers are 33mm at the clamp and may have a different spacing with a different wheel spindle, front fender etc.

I have simplified things a bit as I think there are intermediate part number variations that reflect different lower bush arrangements etc..

If you want to do this - just go ahead and see what happens.....

I have a couple pics which show the difference in the two styles I have as well as the earlier fork tube being temporarily inserted into the later leg. I'm sure I will incur some sort of problem as that is usually the case but ? Will someone enlighten me on how to go about getting permission to upload pictures.
