Need advice on spoke removal, wheel r&r

Post by olde-goat » Sat Aug 11, 2018 8:23 am

I am now at the stage in my CA77 restoration to focus on the wheels. I would like to remove the spokes, in order to be able to buff the hubs. My rims are in surprisingly good condition and will not need rechroming. This is my first major motorcycle restoration and I am looking at any advice prior to spoke removal. Any tips, procedures etc. Thanks for the assistance.

Lubricate the nipples and threaded ends of the spokes well. I use PB Blaster.

If the nipples still appear really tight after lubing them, apply some heat. It doesn't take much.

Otherwise it is possible to twist off the threaded end of the spoke or weaken it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Being a novice at rim dismantling, I don't want to ruin good parts if I can help it.
