From my time in 1962 uncrating bikes after school at the local Honda dealer, I believe there was a bolt coming up from the bottom of the crate on the CA72/77's. It was threaded into that bracket to hold the bike (and possibly some other components) in place during transport. Regards, Chase

So did you then have to lift the crate, or at least the base, clear of the floor and get underneath it to remove the bolt when the bike was built?

I had wondered if it might have been for some sort of bump stop for the centre stand like that on the CL models.

As I have never owned a C/CA model i didn't suggest it but waited for a definitive answer, now it seems that we have one.
