Tank badge id

Post by Geoff Hastings » Fri Sep 04, 2020 12:01 pm

Hi there, I’ve just been given a single tank badge and the guy that gave it to me thinks he might have the other one too. Anyway, my question is what’s it off. It looks like it may have been in a fire as the side panels are blackened so would the badge originally have been painted ? I hope the photo has attached ok.

I think it's off an early CD175. I have a pair like it on my CL77 fitted after the original LH plastic one, and an after-market replica both cracked around the screw hole, not badly but I decided to keep the plastic ones for show and fit the metal ones for regular riding. I read somewhere that the last issue bikes were fitted with metal badges from the factory anyway, anyone able to confirm that?

Thanks Dennis, I knew someone on this site would know, should they be painted or enamelled?

Geoff,

The wing itself is white with the raised 'feathers' chromed, the surround is black. The raised 'Honda' lettering plus the raised circumference of the badge is also chromed. I have (hopefully) attached an image, if it doesn't go through with the message I'll P.M. you.

Thanks Dennis, as my one looks like it’s been in a fire and I’ve only been given the one I think I’ll paint it and just screw it to the workshop wall.
