Condenser will the CB77 fit a CA77?

Post by GrahamH » Sat May 06, 2023 1:34 pm

I was looking at condensers to fit a 1966 CA77 and they are not readily available in the UK, however, the condenser for the CB77 is and is relatively inexpensive. From a wiring diagram I have noted the CA condenser is .24uF but can not find the same info for the CB. I realise the CA has only one set of points and the CB has two so it looks as though the CB condenser is in effect two condensers in one unit, am I correct? And would a CB condenser be suitable for the CA if only one end of it was used? (thus having a built in spare). And lastly for any electrical experts, what is the capacitance of the CB77 condenser?

To answer my own question, yes the CB condenser works fine on the CA using just one half of it. I measured a CB condenser at .26 and .27 uF which compares well with the .24 uF shown on the wiring diagram. An added bonus is now the bike carries it's own spare condenser.

What a great discovery & with data to back it up. I love it !
