Help Decoding VIN

Post by Won-tolla » Sun Oct 24, 2004 2:43 pm

I aquired a CB77 superhawk a couple of months ago and want to restore it. It is my firt vintage bike so I am not sure how to figue out the VIN. The one on the engine is: CB77E-1040896
I was told by the guy I bought it from that it was a 1964, but the speddometer is from 1965. I found some articles, but the number does not match their examples. and the guy said he got the date from a dealer he called Honda with. Any help out their. Thanks ahead of time

Engine and frame numbers indicate that they are a factory matched set.
Are the bottom of the fork legs steel or aluminum ?

georGe
