Chrome gas tank cover separating from tank

Post by akpasta » Fri Mar 31, 2017 4:23 pm

I've got a 64' CB77 Superhawk and I started to notice that the right side chrome cover on the gas tank is separating a bit from the tank at the top. What is the cause of this? How is it affixed? Why does this happen?

It's worth noting that it is separating near the gas cap, which leaks on occasion and probably leaks right to the point where the tank and chrome piece sit together. If it's glue I could imagine the glue could have deteriorated.

What will happen if I leave it? What should I do?

Thanks!

Andy

Have you looked at your parts book as to how it mounts?. ...............lm

I don't have one! But I found the answer elsewhere. Perhaps the bolt has jostled loose or somehow the panel has warped. It does not feel loose or have any play. I will investigate further.
