CB77 front rims

Post by Hank Dymale » Tue May 19, 2020 9:48 am

Hard to find good front rims for a CB77. Would rear rims from David Spares work with the front hub on a Superhawk if larger tires (3.00-3.25-18) were installed? Not interested in show quality, just a riding machine. Hubs appear to have same diameter, but rear hub 3 mm thicker. Spokes appear to be identical.

Yes, you can use the 1.85 (WM2) rear rim on the front. You could also use the standard 2.75-18 tire with that rim. Wider tires can cause fender bracket and fork clearance issues. Regards, Chase

You can but I wouldn't. Keep looking for the correct size rim and fit the original recommended size tyres, surprisingly they still work well like that.

If your spokes 'appear identical' then some of them are incorrect, front spokes are thinner double butted spokes which means they change diameter twice, thick at the hub, thinner in the centre and then thick again at the rim.

Rear spokes are single butted, IE they only change diameter once, thick at the hub then thinner right through to the rim.
Centre section of the rear spokes is thicker than that of the fronts as they transmit the drive.

Both end up the same size at the rim so the nipples are all the same.
