I have a 1966 Ca77 that refused to start today and kept wetting the plugs ( D8HA ). So I reached for the faithful standby the D8HV that I keep in the garage. Because of its gold platinum core first touch of the start button fired it into life.
The HV was the forerunner of the HA but has a more concentrated spark.
Not sure that the HV was a forerunner to the HA, completely different type of construction. Gold Palladium plugs are noted for their much improved resistance to fouling when compared to 'conventional' plugs.
Years ago I heard of a major car manufacturer that was having problems with wear in the inlet valve guides. at worst the problem was so bad that it led to plug fouling and hard / impossible starting. Faced with a major w and expensive warranty repair the fix was to fit a set of Gold Palladium plugs which cured the problem dead. Pretty sure this is factual as my brother in law had one of the affected cars that was bought second hand and out of warranty. After receiving the correct diagnosis of the problem with a expensive repair quote from his normal garage a trip to the main dealer and a new set of plugs solved the problem! I've also used GP plugs in a badly worn and 'oily' engine to put off doing a proper repair, worked for me too.
