Another "what have I got" question

You're right! I thought it wasn't included because it wasn't shown on the picture.... Interesting that it doesn't get an item number though.

I found it here as part 17665-250-000 which is a C70 part number.. Maybe not the same part at all.

Still a lot of different tanks for those bike. Someone couldn't make up their mind....

Now, I am beginning to wonder if the model change from CA77 to CA78 occurred sometime in the '63 production year when the “early” CA77 tank was replaced with the “late” (CA72???) tank. The literature disagrees, but Stan and Fyrmdk’s bikes have CA78 frame numbers and “late” tanks.

I found this statement by Bill Silver on the AllExperts web site;

"CA78s actually began in the middle of the 1963 production,----"

Well, I pulled the slide out of the carb, and found a small burr in the slot that slides over the guide to orient the slide. Cleaned that up, and re-assembled. Slide and cable snap back. After Re-installing, it binds. After a couple tries, and being as careful as possible with the cable routing, I determined that if I backed off the left side carb mounting bolt 1/2 turn, the cable doesn't bind. As sensitive as this system seems to be to any friction in the cable, has anyone tried to put in a heavier spring, or double up on the return spring in the carb to overcome the friction in the cable? It seems to me that this would be a simple fix. The spring is only going to close the slide so far, and the increase in resistance when opening the throttle would be tolerable if it returns to idle quickly and consistently.

A easy way to increase the spring pressure is to "STRETCH IT". ............lm

Thanks LM, I will try to stretch the spring in the AM. I'll let you know what happens.
