Stainless Dream Mufflers-what years?

Post by OldStan » Sat Jan 05, 2013 4:55 pm

Just reading Bill Silvers latest book- Classic Honda Motorcycles Identification Guide. He states that the stainless steel mufflers were on the early (1960-1962) Dreams. My late 1963 (CA78 frame) has stainless mufflers, at least I'm pretty sure they are. They're pretty dented and scratched underneath and there was no signs of rust or peeling chrome on them, even where one mount had broken off, and plenty of rust on anything that was chrome. They are however magnetic, which I know some stainless is not.

My question is, does that mean my mufflers are not original? Not that I'm complaining, I hate the rusty chrome stuff, just a point of curiosity. Anyone else have stainless mufflers on the later years?

Hi Old Stan. I have two 1963 Dreams. One is a CA77, and the other is a c72. Both of these had (have) stainless steel exhaust.

O.S., My '63 Dream has stanless as well. Some discoloration but no rust. I believe they are original to the bike. Steve
