CB77 handlebars on a CA77

Post by garncarz » Sat Feb 15, 2020 3:26 pm

I am thinking about a lower riding position for my CA77. Do Superhawk bars fit? If not, has anyone added lower bars? Is there a pattern available for the cable holes and throttle slot? Thanks in advance.

I fitted flat bars to my C72 some time ago. Found a set on ebay with the throttle guide already cut in them, but still had to drill the holes for wiring etc. From memory any set of flat bars could be modified to suit - just use a Dremel or similar and file to cut the throttle guide. Use a drill and file to cut slots/holes for the wiring (be sure to take off all sharp edges and line with rubber if possible.

Good luck.

Strange, the early C/CAs had flat bars, albeit made of pressed steel, which gave a riding position much like that which you have achieved.

How styles change, back then I believe that putting 'high' CL bars onto a CB77 was a popular mod too.

I ride a '64 CB with standard 'flat' bars and a '65 CL77 with standard (high) bars.

Of the two I think I prefer the CL with it's raised bars and upright riding position although the CB is a bit faster and has a more comfortable (late model wider longer) seat. Yes, I know this seat isn't correct for a '64 bike but it IS more comfortable than the early style item.

Also my back, along with the rest of me is now 70+ years old and not 17 so I'm prepared to sacrifice (some) originality for comfort!

I put low bars on my Dream.

I had been fighting with the slotted throttle tube for a while.
No amount of lube/polishing etc would get me a nice throttle return...it would always "hang"

I finally settled on cb400 bars which had the proper knurling and were drilled properly.

The listing isn't there anymore but the description was: (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CB400-CB4 ... HROME-BARS)

Then I stayed patient and continued to watch eBay for a couple weeks and picked up:
CB77 throttle housing
CB77 throttle tube
CB77 throttle cable

and ended up with this:
