mikuni carburetor

Post by joey7478 » Fri Jul 03, 2020 3:14 pm

Has anyone tried the mikuni vm22 carburetor on their 305 dream? There is a youtube video about it and the guy says it has better idle and reponce. He says you just have to change jets. Thanks joey!

I have not seen the youtube video but I put a Mikuni VM22 on my 64 305 Dream and I'm super happy with it! I don't have anything to compare it to because I never ran it with the stock carb but it starts first kick warm or cold, idles perfect and pulls cleanly. I used the stock carb insulator but had to fill the cutout in it with JB Weld so the O ring would seal. I found that a 25 pilot jet and 120 main jet worked well for me but it seemed to run ok with the 30 pilot and 100 main that came with the carb too. One nice thing about the Mikuni is you can change the main jet without removing the float bowl-just a 10mm nut at the back of the carb. I paid about 100 CAD for the carb online and if I remember about 15 CAD for a selection of jets. I have Miks on my CX500 and they transformed it!

BTW, even though it ran ok with the 100 main jet, I wouldn't recommend it as it was way too lean. The stock carb has 35 pilot and 120 main.
