CB77 RacerCB77 RacerI am building a CB77 racer for a friend. It has 64mm pistons, megacycle cam, Honda 5 speed race trans etc. The points advance is welded at full advance, so how do I set the points timing? It will most likely get some type of E ignition eventually, but we are wanting to hear it run. Also, it has 32mm Mikuni carbs with adaptors that mount up nicely. That seem a bit too large to me. Any opinions or experience with carbs that large? I've taken some great pics, and will post them in the next day or two.
Thanks, Davo So, set the points to open a bit before full advance, fill the 32mm carbs with fuel, and she fired right up! I ended up adding an electric starter, as it has the 5 speed with no kicker, and using a jumper to turn the starter. It runs quite well, and would even hold an idle! We still have some fab work to do on frame etc, but for now we're quite excited at how well it runs! Engine was built about 16 years ago, and never run.

Great stuff! I like projects which involve mods. I'm just hoping that my (cafe)racer project won't be 16 years in the making. Please post some pics of the bike. It will cheer me up and motivate me to get out into my cold inhospitable workshop.... :-) G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Here's some pics I hope! Trying to use a Flicker link. My friend purchased this project in 1996. We've been talking back and forth for about 2 years about completing the project. he has many other vintage bikes, a Laverda, Ducatis a Bultaco Metralla, Can Ams etc etc. Engine was built, only needed to complete primary side. Removed top end to see what was in there, buttoned her up, and fired her up. We want to triangulate the open section of frame where batt box was removed, and fab a rear fender mount. He has a CYB NOS seat. We were hoping to find a CYB rear fender, but that seems a bit hopeless! I has 64mm pistons bored into the stock liners, not a really reliable racing setup for sure. Some nice porting work on cylinder, Megacycle cams, and a CYB 5 speed trans. I can't wait to ride it !!!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/58630926@N04/
