Mystery gearbox elements 5 speed?

Post by Waveblaster » Fri Nov 07, 2014 12:49 am

Hi I have a box of bits some NOS and was wondering if these are off a 5 speed box? If anyone can confirm or has an idea where they are from it would be much appreciated. Also if someone has a diagram of the 5speed gearbox components

regards

Greg

5 speed parts

Post by GORDON BROWN » Fri Nov 07, 2014 6:31 pm

Hello Waveblaster

I have a quick look at my old 5 speeder and I would say that some of the parts look the same, the dog ring and the double gear/shaft assy. + a couple of the gears but not all of them. That said as we well know Honda quite often changed the spec. of parts and there were also close ratio 4 speeders ( which I have never actually seen ) perhaps some of the others can help.
If you want to check the no's of teeth etc. we could compare them for you.

Cheers Gordon

I had a look at the cardboard box and it was labelled "5 speed spares" not that necessarily means the contents are correct.

The dog ring is 45.5mm dia by 10.2 wide

One gear is 58.4 mm dia 9.13mm w 28T

the double geared shaft
Length 88.4 mm
gear 51.87mm dia 24 T
gear 2 54.9 26T

I was trying to piece the puzzle together this evening using some standard elements to help decipher, but there was not enough there to be sure of placement and there may be some rouge pieces all together.

With out technical drawings it makes it tough.

Probably not worth sourcing missing components to make it functional. Selector drum and shafts etc. But if I can find what's what, happy to swap for items I am interested in, if someone can put to use.

regards

Greg

G-Man was kind enough to email a parts list which included teeth count for the various gears. Here is a link to what I think I can identify. The dog rings and a few items are unknown yet without an exploded diagram

5 speeder

Hello Greg

I managed to dig out a 5 speed gearbox and take some pictures of it but unfortunately it was not at home and although I remembered the circlip pliers I forgot about the "set rings" and the measurements ( I forget more than I remember ).
Anyway along with G Man's parts list they might help identify the parts.
