Nice piece of work, but excruciatingly expensive.....

Those modern carbs and the cut-out in the tank let it down a little. I am slowly collecting the parts to do something similar but much, much cheaper. I'm hoping to use a 4-valve DOHC head on mine.

Yep - for that money you could have a genuine CR93. That one probably cost a lot less than £10k to do. Tank, carbs and wheels are the big money items. The engine is all manpower and ingenuity using relatively cheap parts.... The technique, I am told, is to weld a plate on top f the crankcase mouth and drill it with a new stud pattern. After that you have to open up the cranks mouths and sort out cam drive and oil ways between crankcase and barrel / head.

I have a Peter Keyte alloy tank, Suzuki Gt750 front brake and a nice set of 'period' Kehin race carbs for mine. Hopefully, I can get some CR style brake plates for the GT750 front and CB77 rear hubs.

My engine will be an early C72 'breather tower' bottom end with a Suzuki GS400 barrel and head. I'm hoping that I can fit a GSX250 head which is 60mm bore and 4-valves per cylinder...

I have a CB450 head but it is a really heavy lump of metal.

graham, that will be a nice bike when done, i know peter keyte, he has 2 foggy petronas tanks of mine at the minute for repair, i think peter does his work too cheap, he did a suzuki gt750 for me in the 1970's, he use to do custom painting then as well, as a lot of steel work,
re the cr bike have you looked at what else he as for sale, comes to about 70 k, there is some nice set of wheels on ebay now for a racer project, but they are a couple of thousand.
i have my cb72 1961 on ebay, trying to find some parts for it. its been sat in my barn for over a year now. the cb72 makes a nice looking racer/road bike when done. alan

I didn't realise that was your CB72. The one with the red tank? Interesting... Bernard Saunders is doing a 1971, as well.

Yes, I have been looking at those wheels. A bit out of my league at the moment.

hi graham, no, thats not mine, the red one belongs to a chap called matt, mine is a blue tank one, iam selling a battery mat /tray, the bike is on the same add, asking for parts. you have to list something for sale to get away with that type of add, also iam sure no one wants to give me a £100 for a battery mat.the red one, i have asked if he wants to sell the seat and shocks, but wants to keep them with the bike. i only paid 300 for the one i have ,so feel i could put a couple of k into it. . alan
