63 Honda Ca95 Headlight pretty damn sad

Post by kevykev66 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 6:29 pm

So, i'm curious if any one has had any luck upgrading their CA95 headlight to a more powerful option. I'm pretty sure there is no stock option and I've seen various bits and pieces of of info regarding retrofitting existing bulbs. I imagine LED would be the way to go considering the 6v nature of the bike. Has anyone succeeded in doing this and if so is there a location where I might find detailed info on how to accomplish this myself. Thanks

Kev, welcome.

There are LED lamps (bulbs, if you must!) aplenty, from China, on AliExpress. You have three problems with such a conversion:

1. Your bike is, as you say, 6-Volt
2. The reflectors utilised a peculiar flange seat, and
3. LED lamps get very hot*

*Thus they need either a massive heatsink or they are 'force cooled'; i.e. they have a tiny fan mounted on the back of the casing. In either case you're likely to find that there's little depth inside the headlamp bucket for the rear packaging of the LED's cooling method to sit.
