C76 1959 early version

Post by minihonda » Sat Mar 17, 2018 5:48 pm

Having aquired this basket case C76 a year ago, I have a couple of questions
Its in a dark red colour, which appears original
Should the seat be red ?
I am restoring the remains of the seat, and could use a couple of photos of the early C76 seatframe, from the underside.
Its missing all 6V electrics, which appears hard to come by, is it possible to convert to later 12V ?

I am having trouble , attaching a photo

Regards Michael

Welcome to the forum.

Dark Red - Is it a kind of Candy color? Early bikes used a color called 'Candy Fucshia'. Post a photograph, please.

Seats were red from teh factory, I believe. But Dealers tried to jazz them up by swapping seats from blue bikes.

I can provide a picture of a C72/77 seat. My pictures are embedded from Flickr as a BBCode.....

Not sure iif the electrics are similar to C72/77 and don't have any kind of reference.

C76

I'm pretty sure the dry sump engines used a magneto or energy transfer ignition system instead of the battery and coil of the later models.

If you can get a CB alternator stator and rotor to fit the C76 crankcases and crank the conversion should be easy enough. Failing that you could get a modern self generation system custom mad to fit.

I have copy of the parts list somewhere and may have the wiring diagram too if that will help.

As I said looks the paint to be original, and not metallic.
I only have this not so clear photo of another similar seat, its clearly an elder version than this you have posted. There have to be some support springs in the middle of the seat, so I am still looking for photos of a very early seat
I allready have a parts list and wiring diagram, and can see that there should be a built in 6Volt ignition coil, which is part of the stator. I have not yet seen any for sale on ebay, or other places where I have bought parts.
I think the bike is an older version of C76, more like the C70, which have similar different brake drums
I have collected a lot of the missing parts, but are still looking for chrome tank sides with rubber

Looks like you have a superb project there.

I just had a look on the CMS site where they have electronic versions of the parts list but not very many spares.

https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-c75-c76-cs7 ... ml#results

You may have to search in Japan for any parts you need but if you publicize what you are doing, people will come forward with parts to help.
