Am I missing something on my serial number?

Post by jkjoller » Sat Apr 16, 2022 6:23 pm

Hello all-
Got a CA77 with serial number that falls outside the range of the Honda list. Am I missing something here or was this normal? I think its a 1962 but the engine falls out side the last reference number of 210850.
Photos added of frame and engine and guide for reference.

thanks, jeff

I don't think you are missing anything. The serial numbering is a bit of a mess for these Cx/72/77 machines and in your case I would just see it as an error in the parts book. Only the '62s have engine and frame numbers that start with '2' and yours is close so calling it a '62 seems the most reasonable thing to do. You might look through your parts book and see if you can find some parts that were changed during production. There may be something that will help nail it down.

Any chance you can offer a pic of the right side rear top of the engine case?
This bike was issued as a world issue long before the CA78 which was a US issue.
There are other CB72/77 bikes with CB72-62-xxxxx. ...................lm

To LOUD MOUSE
Between the pandemic and the on-again-off-again nature of this site I thought we might never get the benefit of your advice again. It's great to see that you are alive and well!
