Frame Clear Coat? Only?

Post by marvincorty » Sun Apr 02, 2006 3:32 pm

Hi fellow Honda nuts,
I have a question about finishing the frame on my 1971 SL100. The topic may be of use to others in this forum.
This is my first complete resto and while stripping the frame I discovered that the natural steel of the frame looks awesome. Since the factory paint on this frame is silver I am wondering if it is feasible to just clear coat the frame au naturel'. Has anyone ever done this with other steel parts?

I had bought the silver paint and the clear coat but don't know whether to try just putting the laquer clear coat on the frame. Will it properly adhere to a polished surface, and more importantly to unprimed, unpainted surfaces?

Thanks for the help. This pic is only after wire brushing and no sanding work done yet.

I notice this post is one year old. I for one would like to know how you proceeded. Do tell! ...and pics?
