Dupli Color Paint Shop

Post by hondadreamca77 » Sat Apr 19, 2014 10:33 am

All you DIY folks out there. Just restored my CA77 tank and repainted in Dupli Color Paint Shop black.....

Easy to work with (no thinning)
Fuel proof
Clear coat cuts and buffs great (after leaving set up three days)

Very happy with this paint. Forgiving, lays well, hard to sag or orange peel. My only limitation was my inexpensive paint gun. This paint is marketed specifically to the semi pro / amateur shop owner....

$20 can each including shipping on AMAZON.COM

BTW....I sandblasted outside tank, then phosphoric etched inside, Red Kote inside, three coats black and two clear, finally new after market valve and adapter (the old petcock leaked and I was tired of repairing it after 20 removals). Hardly could be more satisfied! I'll post some pics.

Hi Rusty,

Originally Rustoleum primer applied from quart and thinned. For this project I sandblasted back to original primer and just laid straight over it.

What exactly do you want to know about the paint? It is very forgiving, no thinning required, two to three coats is sufficient with 10-30 min dry windows. I only sanded (1200 grit) after first clear coat and then buffed final coat of clear out with 3M compound. Looks nice and glossy. I am sure if you sand between color coats with 1000 grit it would turn out even better. I sprayed at 40 PSI out of an old school quart Campbell Hausfield sprayer. If to do again I would use an HVLP gun with a better nozzle tip. But hey, I like sandblasting and painting various parts.....its a work in progress improving with time and experimentation. I have a side cover I am going to do next.

Bang for buck great! $20 Quart.....

FUEL PROOF SO THAT'S GREAT!

My color is Jet black....they have red, white, and a blue (CL77 color maybe?) and silver in the line up as well.

Thanks for the info, It helped to know how you applied it. I bought a hvlp gun set last year but have yet to use it not having the confidence to get started.
Lately I've been working on putting a Suzuki vs800 back together after a PO tore it down to paint and modify the frame. He never got around to it and lost a lot of stuff to boot. The tank and tins are rough and will need to be painted so what you've described about this paint may be the ticket for me. Thanks again, Rusty
