Gas resistant clear coat finish

Post by maxdog » Thu Apr 23, 2015 2:41 pm

Hello
Was looking on this forum on some painting issues, and recalled seeing something from another forum about clear coating gas tanks with a product that is gas resistant. The product is called Spraymax 2K. I hear it is a great product. Havent used it myself yet, but here is a link to the other forum that gives some idea of how it worked for them;

Hope this may be useful to someone. Take precautions using it though!

I'm actually just about to use this, a guy on my local vintage cycle forum used it and it's beautiful. High mirror gloss, gas resistant (very gas resistant) and can help clear up orange peel by filling it in evenly.

I also keep reading stories about people not using precautions and ending up really sick from using it in T-Shirt and no respirators.

Idiots.

whatever paint you use, you need to seal the gas cap mount/seal with epoxy. any clear coat will separate if fuel can get underneath. superglue works as well as a sealant.
