I recently repaired and refinished some newer cycle fairings, using a black metallic base and SprayMax 2K aerosol gloss clear, and was impressed with the clear. 2K means it's a catalyzed paint that has an activator to provide curing, instead of just evaporation of solvents like standard paints. That provides a much stronger and durable (resistant to gas) finish.
The aerosol 2K Glamour Gloss Clear was a bit thicker than normal spray can clear, and required slower more deliberate passes to get good flow, but it wasn't prone to running and didn't dull-up after fully curing.
There is a company in MO (https://www.66autocolor.com/default.asp) that I ran across that looks to mix colors (not just clear) in the SprayMax 2K formula. They have multiple blues, reds, and white (common Honda vintage colors) that may get close to the original colors. You would need to get some type of color cards from them to know, but finding a color that was close in a 2K spray can formula could provide much better results than any normal "spray can" finish. It would still retain an original "single-stage" look to the finish instead of a "basecoat/clearcoat" look.
If there aren't any colors that get close, you could still go the "basecoat/clearcoat" route with the normal SprayMax 2K Gloss Clear and a base color that is closer - which would give you good topcoat durability and gas resistance.
Looks like they will custom mix colors if you can find a current auto paint color and code that matches - https://www.66autocolor.com/Industrial- ... lpaint.htm
They list this as "Honda Red" (but there are many) - https://www.66autocolor.com/Motorcycle- ... da-red.htm
"Honda White" - https://www.66autocolor.com/Motorcycle- ... -white.htm
The bottom of this page starts their color chip selection - https://www.66autocolor.com/Aerosol-Pai ... =30&page=3
Again, you would need to get some type of sample before buying to confirm that they could get close, but it would be a good option for DIY painting. You will need a respirator to spray the 2K products, as they are not safe otherwise.
If you decide to check into it, let us know what you find.
