can you use a lacquer clear coat over enamel base coat

finished enamel primer and base but having trouble finding enamel clear locally , can i use a non enamel clear coat or would that cause problems.

lacquer chips too easy. if you can't find enamel, use urethane.
Personally, on these old motorbikes, I just use a single stage paint. No primer, no clear coat, no sanding.

I used such a paint on my cruiser, shines fine, very durable, gas doesn't phase it.
there is an orange peel to it... but again, these are old motorbikes, not hotrods.
Honda did a single stage. So shall I.
