CB77 charging output

Post by ramwing7 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 9:01 am

I did replace the rectifier with one sourced from Radio Shack. It seems to be working fine.

What problems I'm having seems to be coming from the dimmer switch on the left handlebar.

Nearest I can tell the switch determines which charging circuit you're on.

My switch seems to be making poor contact and I sometimes get wild fluctuations in the voltage being delivered to the battery.

Could be I'm seeing ghosts or looking for something to tinker with. Dunno? : )

BTW. Outstanding job on that Dream.

It isn't the dimmer switch that controls the charging output but the main lighting switch, on a C or CA model I think this is incorporated in the combination ignition / lighting switch but definitely NOT the dimmer switch.

Absolutely correct. On some bikes though, the dimmer has a 'dead spot' between Hi and Lo and this can cause confusion.

If you use a cheap meter, you WILL see wild fluctuations if not far as possible from the coils, points, etc. I use 8 foot test leads and place my meter on the floor...It settles down nicely.
I like stock...
A few modern mods...
But worst of all are those gawl dang PODS

Thanks for the clarification. I must be in possession of some of those alternative facts going around. ; )

With these real facts I can now pursue some other directions.

Lighting / Battery Issues

Post by Berkeley Boone » Thu Apr 27, 2017 3:16 pm

In response to the questions regarding the loss of battery power while running the lights... I use a trickle charger every time I park my bike. Further, I have removed my headlight bulb and replaced it with Denali D2 running lights (www.twistedthrottle.com). The bright mode will burn the chrome off the bumper in front of you if you're not careful! They are dual intensity, so can can dim your lights. I also run an LED tail light bulb (superbrightlights.com). This is my set-up but they may or may not work for you...
