'67 Cl77 fuel tank

Post by bweed2112 » Sun Mar 27, 2016 7:21 pm

Working on getting a cl77 back in running order. Fuel tank that's with it doesn't appear to be the right tank and is not only rusty on the inside, but also has a broken petcock stem.
So I am looking for a replacement tank. Preferably one that is in working order with a working petcock.
I do have a budget, but if anyone has one or knows of someone who does please let me know so I can check this item off the list.
Thank you

Not sure if you're going for 100% correct or not, but keep in mind that the 67 tank is different than other tanks. You'll notice the seam down the center of the top. The petcock is different too, there is no crossover tube, so the petcock won't have the fitting on the side to hook up the line. It is possible to pull the fitting out and brass plug the hole to use an early petcock on a late tank.

The tank that i have does not have the reserve stem on the petcock.
From what i have been finding online and from other posts on here, the tank is stock.
My plan now is to clean the current tank, but i will still need a petcock and i have been unsuccessful finding one. The stem on the inside of the tank is cracked and thus needs to be replaced.
Do you have any ideas of where i can find a petcock without the reserve stem?

Its not really a reserve stem..........the side-tube is for the cross-over to adequately drain the left side of the tank............by not having one you actually have a reserve...sort-of.............If you run out of gas you can stop and lean the bike WAYYYY over and get enough gas to go a few miles.

I'll take a look in my stash to see if I have a spare...............will report back tomorrow.

From my research and replies on here, it should be the stock tank. I'll post pictures tomorrow morning as my phone is not allowing me to.
I appreciate you looking, hope you find something
