1967 305 CL77 exhaust

Post by Johnnydarkgt350 » Thu Jan 04, 2024 1:34 pm

Hello everyone; during the restoration of my 305 scrambler, it’s been discovered that my pipes were cut off underneath the muffler and I want to replace the exhaust pipes to no muffler anyone have any for sale or know of any? Thanks Jim

You’ll see CL77 pipes of various condition and configurations on eBay. By 1967, all new CL77s were issued with the “guppy” muffler. Later 1967 CL77 production mufflers were welded to the pipe(s); earlier in the 1967 production year (and also 1965-1966) the mufflers were still bolted on. You’ll be looking for the earlier pipes.

Here's a later set of 305 welded-on style pipes; though not what you're looking for:

Pipes come up in listings from time to time. Condition in most listings range from Fair to Good. Scrambler pipes have thick-wall tubing, so they age fairly well. But welding, patching and chrome is usually a given when restoring.

A NOS set of early CL77 pipes plus slip-on muffler sold for around $1,400 a couple of years ago. Very uncommon to find a set like that.

Thanks Deuce, I know that when restoring a vintage bike/car most times you run into an unexpected expense. But if I’m going to do a Bill Silver restoration on my CL77 I need to do it right. The two pipes on eBay should work out fine and Bill has a Chrome guy. Possibly south of the border with regulations here now. I’ve always felt the pipes are what sets off these bikes . Any ideas where to find the snuffernots? Thanks again for your input Jim
