Mike can I ask what bike this is and was it in a complete running condition? Your story is very different to others I have heard.
My first experience was a complete bike bought over in 2010 a fully running condition and prior to NOVA, it had Duty and VAT paid in the normal way. My second is my current project, no known import details, applied for a NOVA before I did any work, filled in the import paperwork with a few known details, supplied a copy of the receipt (a private sale) and received my free NOVA with no problems. My latest is importing a complete CA78 again using the same shipping company as the first, Duty and VAT will be payable (10% + 20%) unless HMRC can be convinced the vehicle is of significant Historical Interest when just 5% VAT is due, something they are very wise to and is very difficult to prove. 1977 CB400F

Hi there
Its one of the first 1965 honda CL77,When i bought it originally there was no documentation at all and i purchased the bike from withing the UK. I was told it had been here for some time the guy who i bought it off had bought it from within the UK years ago, I had no evidence of this but DVLA were good enough to take my word for it. I had the original frame and engine but sadly the engine was seized, other than that I had a few spares in a box but 60% of the bike was missing. The condition of the vehicle wasn't an issue for nova but the DVLA needed the bike to have a Valid MOT and the bike must have been complete for the inspection. After many months of searching for parts we did get it running and it was in full working order at time of registration. All be it unrestored as far as blasting, chroming and painting are concerned.
