NOS DID wheel Rim Help

Post by G-Man » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:20 am

Last year, I bought a NOS DID wheel rim from CMS in Holland it was given a late CL77 rear rim part number ( 42701-273-010) but when it arrived it was without flanges. I perhaps should have returned it straight away but was a bit busy and hadn't really decided what to do about rims for my CL77 (67) at the time.

I was just wondering whether this really would have been supplied by Honda as a CL77 rim (it has 36 holes and the correct spoking pattern) or whether it was made for something else. Is there any other Honda that used a 19inch plain steel DID rear rim?

Just curious - the money and the opportunity to get it back is gone so I just chalked it up to experience. Any ideas on who would find it useful, gratefully received.

G-man, I believe the CB450Kos used 19s front and rear. I built a set for a guy a year or two ago, but i can't remember for sure. That seller with the sidestand has a couple other parts I'm watching, I'll let you know if I win any of them.

Just checked my Honda book and unfortunately the 450s all used 19 inch front and 18 inch rear. I thought it might have been CL450 but that's 18 as well.

The only 19s I can find are CB500, 550, 750 and GL1000 fronts. Perhaps I need to check the spoke angles as all of those will be small hubs with disc brakes.

Graham, yes I had thought of those other models as well, so checking the spoke angles may be the way to go. What width is the rim?

It's 1.85 so I wasn't sure about fronts. Maybe a GL1000 could have a WM2 front. Need to do some more research. Just on observation though the spoke holes suggest a big drum. Maybe Honda really did supply plain rims as replacements for CL77s later on?

Graham, it is quite possible that it is a late replacement. The spoke holes definatel suggest a large hub. Could it be a front for a CB450? I can't remember the width, and don't have one here to check.

Thanks for the help. I'm beginning to think that I have a very rare part that no-one wants! Never mind - it could form the beasis of a whole new project. I built a trials Bantam just from a rear hub once....

Take care
