Mopeds anyone?

Who said it was only about Motorcycles? What else do you collect, restore, enjoy... ?

Mopeds anyone?

Post by Rusty Bikes » Wed Feb 28, 2007 10:11 pm

I like Mopeds.
I like to customize them.
My current moped is a 1979 Motobecane "army" style.
I also have a 1967 Bianchi folding moped.

Man they're great. Some of the coolest I've seen. Haven't owned a moped but used to have a couple of scooters. I'm in the process of getting an old cub to restore but I sure wouldn't turn down those cool looking mopeds you got there. Paul

I'm really not into mopeds but I got to admit I just love that one. Very nice looking bike. Thanks for posting it. Paul

I bought a '78 Honda express new when I was a kid. I ran it for a year and believe it or not, traded it off for an old Fiat convertable. It was a fun little bike but I was 16-17 and hoping for a real motorcycle. My first motorcycle by the way turned out to be an old Honda CB160.
Recently I got involved with a High school project where the kids build a 3 or 4 wheel "car" and then compete with other high schools to see how far their creation will go on just a few ozs of gasoline. This year we are using an old Honda Express engine to power our car. One of the other fathers showed up with it but it was missing some parts (coil, cables, etc). I figured I could just buy an old parts bike so we would have all the parts we needed. So I advertised looking for parts. I now have 11 of these bikes in my barn along with a healthy parts supply. I know the Express isn't a true moped - not having pedals, but it's close.
I spent a very contented afternoon and evening yesterday combining two old parts engines to make one good one. The best part for me is that you can lift these engines and not hurt your back!
