Sachs Moped......More MPG?Sachs Moped......More MPG?With gas prices going sky high I couldn't pass this one up...now to see if I can get it running in case of emergency.
1980 Sparta (made in Holland) with 47cc Sachs powerplant Anyone know any good resources for old mo-peds? 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
Hi,
Wow, where did you find this ? It's a stroker and not that high on rpm, but better then the dream I guess. What does 1 liter gas cost you ? Here in the Netherlands it is 1,75 euro a liter. That means 2,59 USD per liter, thus 9,79 USD / gallon. I bet you drive cheaper, Jensen assembly of Japanese motorcycles requires great peace of mind (Pirsig)
Local guy had it "free to haul away"....I doubt it will end up being "free" though.
Electrics have been hacked and flywheel pulled with a screwdriver or who knows what else. No fire and rusty frame gas tank......but, it does have compression! Setting the timing and points gap is a pain on these behind the flywheel setups....my feeler guage will not even fit in the little slot in the flywheel and the points cam is part of the flywheel inner!!! The condenser is soldered to the magneto lead and points wire! The frame is held together in two sections with one bolt with a lot of play......probably makes it real interesting at any speed! Our gas is at $4.00/ gallon and rising almost every day, not nearly as bad as many countries, but it is bad when you consider it can be sold for much less! 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
Hi,
Soldering the leads to the condenser was a standard feature, believe it are not, it is supposed to be that way. Yes, the points gap adjustment can be a pain, it has to be done with the flywheel on the crank. Make sure that the governor doesn't work anymore and weld it (or bolt it) fully advanced. By law, it is forbidden that a moped is running faster then 45 km / h, a governor mechanism is de-advancing the ignition at a certain rpm, it's build in the flywheel. It seems an advance mechanism, but it works the other way around. It will cause overheating when running WOT. With 4 USD a gallon you are lucky. Our government is getting 50 % takes over every sold liter, that means that at least 4,50 USD is going to our government over every gallon (probably more) Now you know how our health care bill is paid, Jensen assembly of Japanese motorcycles requires great peace of mind (Pirsig)
Well, finally got the wiring sorted out, points and timing set, nice fat spark, and it fired up on the first revolution.
Can't find any spark advance or governor mechanisms present, so it looks like a I have a whopping unrestricted 1.8 HP!!!!!! Not to mention over 100 ft-lbs of torque!! (If I stand on the pedals just right) 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
Wiring Diagram Puzzle!Well I thought I had it figured out, until I tried to wire in the lights!!!!!
Turns out the brake light switches are normally CLOSED and open when the levers are pulled! So how can the brake light come on when the circuit OPENS? 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
