CB350 K4 Cam Chain Tensioner/Roller Diameter ?

Post by Phil-UK » Sat May 28, 2016 6:08 am

Hi

Anyone able to tell me what diameter the large rubber cam chain roller is on the CB350 K4 ?
Part Number - 14601-312-000

It seems cheap @£8 and I wondered if it would be a viable replacement for a CB72/77 cam chain tensioner rubber as per G-Man's efforts using the CB72/77 Primary Chain Roller.

thank

Phil

CB 250/350 tensioner roller

Post by GORDON BROWN » Tue Jun 14, 2016 1:39 am

Hello Phill

Had just noticed your post, so I measured a new K roller I had.
ID 15.5mm
OD on rib 55mm
OD on flat 50.6mm
W at bush 15mm
W at outside 10mm
Unfortunately it is also narrowed like a CB72/77 one ( in the wrong place for reducing it to a smaller dia. ) and the centre is too small.
Pity, as you said they are inexpensive and available. Anyway with the pile Graham is making he will be able to supply us all for the next hundred years.

Gordon

That's handy to know.

I bought a Kawasaki one on eBay, just for interest and I think it would be possible to use.

It is parallel sided and measures

ID 13.0mm
OD on rib 50mm
OD on flat 46mm
W at bush 12mm
W at outside 10.5

It's been sitting on my desk for months. It would need a custom pin / bush but could be a helpful alternative. Not too sure what bike it was from, maybe a small four?

Actually, thinking a bit more. We could put a bronze bush in and use the pin and centre bush from the 'small wheel' tensioner. That could work......

I need to work out what bike it was from, don't I?

Not suggesting anyone goes out and buys one of these but this is a really nice part. A rubber-mounted sprocket with rubber lands for the cam chain plates to run on.

A sort of deluxe touring Capellini item......

Love to get hold of one and try it in the Honda tensioner..... :-)
