For anyone who chokes on $100+/- for a stock air filter and tube, here's an alternative:
UNI POD # UP 6152 ST, $19.99

6" long, 3 1/2" outside dia, 1 1/2" inside dia.
It will fit snugly over the carb inlet, and will stay mounted even without a clamp.
I first used one mounted directly on the carb, but ended up recessing it from the carb with a section of radiator hose to more mimic the stock configuration (thanks to LM's recommendation).
I went to local auto parts store with a ruler, and looked at their pre-formed hoses and picked one with a gentle curve followed by a straight section, then cut it to the length I needed.....about $12.00.
The UNI POD snout fits perfectly into the 1 1/2" ID radiator hose, and the radiator hose fits perfectly onto the carb.
Not saying this is better or even as good as stock, but it is cheaper, and works.

I made a uni filter adapter following the instructions here.
The only change I made was that I made my hose the same length as the original hose.
My filter is also a bit shorter and a bit fatter.
100mm diameter of the foam, 200 mm height.
It is a wet foam with a dry foam cover, but it is not covered on the top for some reason??
the clamping part was soft rubber, as was the hose I clamped it to, so I sleeved it on the inside with a piece of vacuum cleaner pipe (don't tell the wife)

I have not ridden the bike yet, due to some battery issues I am having.
But I did start it and rev the engine before and after the change (no other changes were made) and the difference was surprising.
The bike revved a lot higher and the uptake was faster too.
This may be due to the fact that my old filter was completely trashed, but I did blow it out with an air compressor before doing the experiment.
I am not sure how this will translate when riding but I cannot see how it could make the ride worse.
I may dyno the bike to see if it now requires re-jetting.
