honda 5 speed gear kits

Post by Matain » Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:57 pm

Hi; new on the forum but must say how pleased I am to have found it and the strong community support.

I had a similar requirement and almost gave up in my search until I found velocettegearset.com.

The guys at the other end were a great help. Although they are only selling 5-speed velocette gear sets at the moment they tell me they are in the process of making 5 speed gear sets for the Honda 305. I have one on provisional order I will update you when I receive it.

thanks for the info, I think this will be very valuable information to a lot of parties if it is a solid, reliable kit.

Hi Gun.

If the quality is anything like the 5 speed set I had from them for the Velo I will be over the moon. Apparently, I am to expect completely new ratios that are specifically designed for road use rather than the old ultra close sets that are about for racing.

honda 305 5 speed gearkits

Post by Matain » Wed Feb 18, 2009 12:25 pm

Hi Gun.

Thank you for the comments about my bikes.

With reference to the gearkit I have on order, they [velocettegearbox.com] reckon that the kit will end up costing approx £1450.
I am told that a dislike with previous kits has been that they require the customer to do some minimal welding of some sort, this kit will not need this.they are finalising an eccentric adjuster for the selector mechanism, that can be set before the side cover goes on.

I will keep you updated.

Hi Matt

Will this cluster require removal of the kickstart mechanism which I believe the NOVA
conversion does ?

regards

Phil

Hi Phil,
Yes the kit does involve the loss of the kickstart facility, The reason for this is, is that the Honda 4th gear is only 8mm wide and as many people are "using" their bikes to the full extent or going to 350cc, 4th gear has been known to give problems, so the kit I have on order has a wider stronger 12mm 4th gear, and, together with the 5th gear, takes up the kickstart space. I am looking forward to riding the bike with modern ratios without the gaps!

regards
Matt
