I rebuilt top end, reassembled motor and reinstalled on bike.
I may have failed to install the 2 locator pins that connect between cylinder head and cylinder.
Can I get enough room by to install the 2 pins (11x16 mm) by separating the cylinder & heads on the bike without removing the motor from the frame?
Thanks

Re: 1967 305 CL77 Engine
Here's what we did on our Yamaha XS650 (750) race bikes, engines similar to the 305:
To remove the top end without pulling the engine we cut screwdriver slots in the tops of the studs. With the studs out the top end could be removed without pulling the engine. In your case you'll have to double-nut the studs at the top and unscrew them that way, assuming there is clearance with the frame. However, having just removed the studs from my 305 (for an entirely different reason) be aware that some of them may be very tight. I overcame that problem by.using a propane torch to heat those areas of the upper engine case into which the studs screwed.
Good luck.....

Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had.
