Checked in with The Higher Authority, just to visit, catch up, ask a few dumb questions. He told me I’d installed my throttle cable wrong. I guess he’d seen pic in earlier post here.
“But that’s how it was before, I’ve got good photos.” “That don’t mean it’s right.” After checking: “But that’s how it shows it in my owner’s manual.” “Still don’t make it right.” Reminds me of that old country song, “Who you gonna believe, me or your own lyin’ eyes?”
After rerouting the cable around the front of the headlight ear, I checked out a bunch of photos in h305 gallery and on Flickr, etc. Sure enough about half had it that way, about half the way I’d done it originally. The higher quality restorations mostly show it LM’s way. Less radical 90 degree bend that way, less chance of unwanted throttle response when handlebars turned to full lock.
Item #38 in setup instructions in the Silver restoration guide sure seems to show cable going behind headlight ear, so if a bike was set up wrong by dealer, that may be why.
At any rate, I’m convinced. Ed’s way is better. As usual. Pix tell the story.
I’m working on a restoration post, but it’s getting warm enough to get on porch and re-do something else I did wrong the first time so I think I’ll go do that. Almost there, stay tuned. --Lee
