Points Screws

Post by Greggie-e » Thu Dec 10, 2009 9:57 pm

Hi, my bike must have been previously owned by a butcher.

the screws that hold the points cover on and the screws that hold the points plate on are pretty much useless.

Apparently I need

The point cover plate uses 5x30 (old)JIS....0.9 thread pitch x 2
The breaker plate screws are 5x12 (old)JIS..0.9 thread pitch x 2

Fleabay guys want $26 postage to Australia, I think that is a tad too much, but i am willing to pay a reasonable amount.

Cheers,
Greg

Not that this is perfectly correct , however I could not fing the correct screws either, and mine were trashed also. I found some 10-32 screws at the hardware and tapped the holes to match.

If I can't find the right ones I am going to have to do something like that too, although I think I would prefer to make some screws on the lathe (ie pay someone else to make them)

Greggie, drop an email to FASTFRED (FASTFREDKOREN@aol.com); he sometimes has the JIS screws on offer. Good guy to deal with too!

G'luck....

When I get to this bit of my CL77 resto - I intend to helicoil the holes back to a standard metric pitch.

That way I won't have to bother searching for crazy sizes.

I've used these on a number of restorations where 'monkeys' have been at work before me.

Cheers

Agreed, G. I've been Helicoiling every thread in the casings, but I have left the JIS 5mm tappings alone; I got the necessary screws from FASTFRED.
