Clutch Plate Interchangeability

Post by brewsky » Sat Feb 13, 2010 6:44 pm

The friction plates from my 66 ca77 measure 3.8mm (5 plates with 2 wires) and I need to purchase new ones.
Will the same thickness plates for CB or CL models work?
TIA

They are all fiber.

I cleaned them in gas and was going to re-use them, but I noticed some flaking when rubbed, so I figured they should be replaced.

The basket has 5 fiber, 4 thin and 1 thick steel plates, with 2 wire separators, and has a "5" stamped inside.

The springs measure 1.35" with no white marking on the ends... maybe the ("next to last") edition?

The fibers measure 3.8 mm with some wear, so i'm guessing they were 4mm originally?

THANKS for your help

Got re-furbished friction plates today from Loud Mouse and they look much better than what I removed!
The metal core friction plates have much more contact area than the all fiber version.
I had tried cleaning the old all fiber plates but they started flaking so I was afraid to use them.
