Ya had it apart so take another good look and check the pic of that area of the parts book. ................lm

Hi,
It seems just a bad moulding / casting issue, probably opened by blasting or so.
I checked a few cases, and I don't think that oil will flush out there, it's behind the packing area, but you have to check or send us a close-up of that area. This part of the case is used to press the cases from each other, and don't have an other function.

@ LM: I never had the cases apart so I don't know what it looks like inside.
@ Deez: Thanks! I'm glad you like my previous work. I cut my teeth on a 75 cb400f a few years back. All the bikes are gone due to loss of work. But I'll likely keep this Superhawk. Of all the bikes, this is definitely one of my favorites and one of the hardest bikes to find.
@ Jensen: Well, that's good news. That's as close up as I can get. I never blasted it. I just cleaned it with aircraft stripper. I never noticed it before until it was painted. Then it was obvious. Anyway, it looks like no oil is there or meant to go anywhere from there. I can still just cover it with JB weld anyway. It's on the bottom. If it gets oil on it later, it will be harder to repair.

I second Jensen's observation. It is a casting cavity with no obvious useful purpose, at least not to me. As long as you are properly sealed around the bolt just forward of it, you won't see any unwanted oil there.

Here, I've assembled the motor. Pretty straightforward and no issues. I had Phils Cycle do the valve job. Since I didn't have a valve compressor and I didn't have a good way to do a valve job, I had the shop do it.
